Cognitive decline is increasingly becoming an important focus of public health institutions throughout the United States. The population of American seniors over the age of 65 is projected to double in upcoming years. Cognitive decline can have a major impact on the daily life functioning of any adult, and multiple factors play an influence on the deterioration of an individual’s cognitive functioning. Current literature has yet to definitively determine associations between cognitive decline, sleep trouble, and anxiety. This study aims to determine what relationship exists between cognitive decline, sleep trouble, and age as well as cognitive decline and anxiety. A cross-sectional study was conducted using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey standardized questions regarding cognitive decline, sleep trouble, and anxiety. The population sample consisted of 192 participants, 82 males and 110 females, living in the United States between the ages of 0 to 150. Two Chi-square tests of independence and a Cochran- Mantel-Haenszel test of independence were performed. Significant associations were found between cognitive decline and sleep, and cognitive decline and anxiety. Based on these results, a health coaching program and behavioral intervention program will be implemented in health clinics and hospitals around the United States to ensure adults manage their sleep trouble and anxiety early on in life to decrease the overall risk of cognitive decline.en_US
